A Trip to the Farmers’ Market

5 Feb

Lately I have taken to going to the Hillcrest Farmers’ Market on a Sunday morning. It’s a nice way to start the day, as usually I have to work at noon. Going there and getting all my fruit, vegetables and flowers for the week is not only inspiring, it makes me feel like I’ve accomplished something extra in my day.

My mom gave me one of Alice Waters’ books for Christmas. I must admit cooking is not always my favorite activity, but I try. It’s just not the creative release for me that it is for so many others. Having said that, I am a pretty decent cook (some might even say “good”) when the mood strikes me. I like to cook for other people, and I’m trying to extend the same care to myself, and also to eat more vegetables.

Going to the market helps with this. There are so many things to look at, taste, and buy there. I love it!

Check out these tomatoes; aren’t they amazing??

The importance of color in food, as in other areas of life, cannot be underestimated! These tomatoes make an absolutely delectable presentation. When confronted with a little multi-colored pile of these tomatoes, with perhaps some bits of cilantro and avocado among them, who could resist? Definitely not me, and I’m not even that big on tomatoes. The colors are just too fun though.

It’s also fun to play with your food around the house. Yes, you can even decorate with these cute tomatoes!

Don’t they look adorable in my Jonathan Adler banana tray (which, incidentally, I got on mega-sale thanks to Holly over at decor8–thank you!). They made such a nice display I forgot to eat them…which obviously isn’t the point, but still.

I can’t wait to see what awaits me this Sunday!
